Principal's Message: 9/26/22

Dear OHS Families,

We are getting close to our Harvest Faire coming up on Saturday, October 1st, from 10am – 3pm behind the school.  This is our first Harvest Faire since fall of 2019 so it will be a big treat to all be together for fun and community.  It is also an important fundraiser for the PTA and all the good work they do throughout the year.  Thank you to the organizers for handling all the necessary preparations and making the event possible.

Last call for Chromebook Insurance

In several previous messages, I have encouraged parents/guardians of grade 3, 4, and 5 students to purchase the $30 insurance for the Chromebooks provided to students.  This is my last chance to encourage you because the opportunity to purchase the insurance for the year closes on October 1st.  Here are the directions provided for signing up for the insurance in IC.

Lockdown Window

This week we will be having our first of four lockdown drills for the year at some time between Wednesday and Friday.  We speak about the drills in as appropriate a way as possible for the students.  We talk about it being a way to account for everyone in the building in a quick fashion, just as we account for everyone outside with a fire drill.  At times, students may bring up what might cause a lockdown to be required and a student may talk about a dangerous person being near the school.  In these instances we say how there are all sorts of instances where a lockdown can be the right approach, including if there is a skunk or wild animal on the property or if there is a power line down just outside the school and so on.  The staff take these drills very seriously and though they are not comfortable for any of us, we understand that they serve an important purpose.  I will send out a quick message once the lockdown drill is  complete to let you know how it goes.

Spirit Day

Friday, 9/30, will be an OHS Spirit Day.  Everyone can wear either OHS spirit wear or Green/White to show our school spirit.

I look forward to seeing you at the Harvest Faire if you are able to attend!
