Principal's Message: 6/7/21

Dear OHS Families,

We are certainly in a busy season now with lots of special activities and events. Here are some of the big things that have happened or will be happening in the coming days.

Final Week for Mrs. Beatty

Abby Beatty, who has worked as our afternoon clerk in the office for the past four years and is a former OHS parent and PTA president, will be having her last day this Friday.  Abby was kind to stay with us several months longer than comfortable for her own schedule so as to not leave us empty-handed.  We will miss Abby, especially her singing, good humor, and southern dismissal announcements.  Abby has taken on many ongoing tasks including many that have allowed our special education team to spend their time working with students.  Thank you, Abby!

Walkathon Thank You

This past Friday, we had our OHS Walkathon.  The students did a great job on the walk.  It was very similar to past years with a walk around the neighborhood in a long line.  The big difference was at the end of the walk, the classes returned to their classroom rather than all of us gathering on the field.  The students had a great time.  I want to thank Emily Lusk, Melissa Miller, and Katie McHale for spearheading this PTA event that serves both as a fundraiser and a celebratory all-school event.

Collection of School Devices

We will be collecting all school devices that have been lent out over the past year on Tuesday, June 15th.  If your child(ren) borrowed a device from the district (Chromebook or Kajeets internet wifi), please send it to school with your child on the 15th along with the power cable.  You are welcome to send it in sooner than the 15th if you no longer need it.  Thank you!

OHS Field Days

Field Days are here!  Big thanks to Mr. Marko for planning the activities and stations.  Field Day will spread across two school days with grades K, 1, and 2 on Monday, June 7th, and grades 3, 4, and 5 on Tuesday, June 8th.  The events will be led by staff this year. Please send your student(s) in wearing OHS spirit wear and sunscreen on the day of their event.

Fifth Grade Moving Up Ceremony

This Friday, June 11th (and rain date of Monday, June 14th) will be our Fifth Grade Moving Up Ceremony.  We will be having the event outside in the morning at 9:45.  It will be a chance for us to come together with lawn chairs or blankets and celebrate our wonderful group of fifth graders. We are now allowed to have four guests per fifth grader attend the event.

Cat and Dog Supply Donation for a Local Animal Shelters

Our fifth graders’ end of year community service project is a collection from now through June 15th of dog and cat supplies, including food, milk bones, cat treats, leashes and collars (mid to large size), clean up/waste bags, chew toys, scratchers, etc. Items can be placed in the collection boxes around the school.  They are also collecting monetary donations on Venmo through Mary Donovan (@Mary-Donovan-44). This will be a special opportunity for our fifth graders to help local animal shelters and have a shared experience in serving a need in the community.

Have a great week,

David
