Principal's Message: 5/17/21

Dear OHS Families,

I hope you are enjoying spring thus far.  This is always an exciting time in school.  I am happy that we will be able to offer some end of year activities with the appropriate accommodations for safety.  As you may know, we will be having the Walkathon on June 4th and we will be celebrating our fifth graders with an outdoor Moving Up Ceremony on June 11th.  I am happy to announce we will also be having a modified Field Day for each grade level.

OHS Field Days

We’re excited to be able to hold Field Day this year! Mr. Marko has been planning some activities and stations for the event.  Though it will be different in a variety of ways from past field days, it will be an exciting event that I am happy we can hold.

This year, field day will spread across two school days (June 7th and June 8th) and each grade level will have their own individual hour of time for the events.  We will have staff run each of the events as we are unable to have parents attend.

Incoming Kindergarten Tours

Also a sign of spring arriving is our incoming kindergarten orientation and tours.  This past Wednesday and again this coming Wednesday, we have groups of our incoming K students visiting the school prior to the late start arrival time.  It was a treat to see the future otters and their families.  Students were able to meet some staff members, see classrooms and other key parts of the school.

Picking Up Students Early

As we get deeper into the spring, we are starting to have more and more students dismissing early for a variety of reasons.  While I know there are times when necessity calls for an early dismissal, limiting these as much as possible will be a great help so students can be in school to learn and so classes are not disrupted as frequently.

Have a great week ahead,

David
