Dear OHS Families,
I hope you are enjoying this extra-long weekend! Thursday’s Valentine’s Day celebrations were lovely and made the day special.
This coming week, which is Random Act of Kindness Week, we have some exciting events planned.
The first event is on Thursday and will wrap up our work the last weeks on Awareness. Third, Fourth, and Fifth graders have been gathering information about some important staff members, who students may not know much about yet. Our bus drivers, lunch/recess monitors, kitchen staff, and Mr. Bill have been answering lots of questions and students have been sharing the information through our interactive bulletin board. Now classes are working with their buddies to create a card or poster for the honorees. On Thursday, we will get to gather to share all that was learned about each person and we will honor the individuals in together. We hope that this work will help make our students aware of the members of our community who do a great deal to help them each day. Our CARES Council, led by Mrs. Galgano, have done a great deal of organizing and planning to make this all happen.
Our second event is on Friday when our Bigelow Senior Center friends will be coming to visit for the morning. This has become an annual tradition and one that we all look forward to. Our fifth graders will sing for the event before heading off for their field trip to the Discovery Museum. Some of our third graders will have conversations with the visiting friends and our fourth graders are making cards. Thank you to all who have signed up to bring breakfast items for our visitors.
Our fifth grade will have a special guest presenter this Friday. An OHS alum, Melissa Warten, who I taught in fifth grade, is now working in the book publishing field. She will be coming to share about her experiences. She has already shared a soon-to-be-published book with our classes. I am really looking forward to seeing her and hearing about her work.
I look forward to seeing you around school,
