Dear OHS Families,
Reading Celebration Week was great fun this past week. There were many highlights from the week – including some extremely creative costumes of book characters on Friday! It certainly facilitated many discussions about books during the day.
Another exciting element to the week was the annual Book Swap! This is a special tradition in our school and a great opportunity to witness the joy in our students’ eyes as they select a new-to-them books. Opening the front doors at 6:30 on Wednesday night can only be likened to store doors opening on the day after Thanksgiving! Big thanks to the team of parent volunteers who collected, organized, displayed, and cleaned up all the donated books. Leslie Mertz and Jen Brady led the group well and prepared to pass the baton on to the new heads. Thank you for the years of making this grow and succeed.
I know the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) is weighing heavy on everyone’s minds these days. As you have probably heard from your child(ren), we have implemented handwashing on the way into lunch after recess. Our recess staff have been reminding students about correct handwashing procedures just prior to the transition. Mr. Bill and I have been in daily contact about the updated procedures for keeping the building as safe as possible. Mr. Bill, Mr. Gary, and Mr. Lou have been putting in a great deal of extra work into before, during, and after the school day.
It is hard to believe, but as we approach Spring conferences in another week, it is also time to begin thinking about placement for next year. As in previous years, we will be accepting letters from families to provide information to our placement teams. Please see the linked letter for more information about the information we will accept. Please know, letters containing information we do not accept will be returned. Please send letters in by April break so I can organize the information over the break.
Enjoy the week ahead,
