Principal's Message: 2/27/23

Dear OHS Families,

We have a busy week ahead!

Reading Celebration Week

Reading Celebration Week is here and it is a great time to celebrate reading together.  I invite you to check out more information below in the Flash for specifics. Thursday is Read Across America Day and we will have a special Drop Everything and Read time as a school in celebration.  Big thanks to Ashley Maguire, Tanya Dunne, and Katie McHale for organizing the week for us.

One Book One Town

The town’s One Book One Town children’s book this year is The Rhino Suit by Colter Jackson. The FPL OBOT site states, “This gentle and moving picture book tells the story of a very sensitive little girl who builds herself a rhino suit as protection against all of the bad and sad feelings she experiences.” This book will be used as a read aloud in classrooms throughout the week. The PTA kindly sponsored the purchase of one copy per grade level and one for our LLC.  Thanks to Mrs. Kosh for organizing the purchase.

Book Swap

Having our Book Swap overlap with Reading Celebration Week works beautifully as the swap is a great opportunity for celebrating books and being excited about reading.  This is a wonderful opportunity to trade some of the books that have been read in your home for some new-to-your-home titles.  On Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, students can bring those books they would like to trade to school with collection taking place from 8:30-9:15am each morning.  Then on Thursday, March 2nd, during the school day, classes will come through the Book Swap and each student will choose some books to keep. Thank you to Anne Truman, Amelia Clark, and Yemi Chudoba for organizing the event and to all the volunteers who make the event possible.

OHS Variety Show

To end this exciting week, we have the OHS Variety Show on Friday evening at 7 pm at Black Rock Church.  This is a special night of seeing the talents and interests of students in our community.  Jen Kelley, Janice Price, Sarah Fridman, and Marissa Jacobson have been working hard to get the show up and going.  Looking forward to a night of big smiles and special moments.

Enjoy the week filled with reading and performing,

David
