Principal's Message: 12/21/20

Dear OHS Families,

As we quickly approach the December break, I am relieved and heartened knowing we made it through December remaining in-person in our hybrid model.  I want to say a big thank you to our community for following the protocols that, now 9 months in, are often tiring and frustrating.  Your efforts and stamina with the protocols have kept people safe and allowed us to remain open.  Thank you!

The below information is primarily a repeat from last week. My primary reason for this message is to send to those who celebrate a Merry Christmas, a Happy Kwanzaa, and I hope all had a Happy Hanukkah last week. I also want to wish everyone a Happy New Year.  I am sure we all have similar wishes for the new year and hopes being all together at some point in 2021.

OHS Holiday Drive Donations Thank You

Thank you to all who contributed to the Holiday Drive by contributing gift cards.  Audra and Lindsay will be sending those to families today after the delay due to our snow last week.  Thanks also to Audra and Lindsay for organizing this!

Fully Remote Early Dismissal Day - December 23rd

As a reminder, the day before the December break, December 23rd, will be a fully-remote early-dismissal day. All students will learn remotely from home.  Teachers will send out schedules to follow for the day prior to the 23rd

Holiday Sing-Along – December 23rd

In typical years, our school comes together the day before the December break for a Holiday Sing-Along in the APR.  While we cannot come together in person these days, Mrs. Haskitt has been working with all the grade levels to put together a Sing-Along we can all enjoy simultaneously on December 23rd.  It will be on the fully-remote early-dismissal day just prior to break.  More information will come from your child(ren)’s teacher(s) about how to attend.  I will be sending out information directly to the Remote Learning Academy families for how to join a Meet with me.

Big thanks to Mrs. Haskitt for her work in making this possible.  Also thanks to Mr. Haskitt for his assistance with it as well.  I am looking forward to the event!

New Elementary Schedule - Starting January 19th

At this past Tuesday’s Board of Ed meeting, the superintendent presented the new schedule for elementary schools that will be starting on January 19th.  Here is a letter from Mr. Cummings with an overview and links.  The purpose of the change is to allow us to return to 100% capacity while avoiding some of the trickier safety portions of the day (including lunch and certain specials).  The schedule includes a typical arrival time of 8:45 and then students going home at 1:00 pm for lunch, specials, and other synchronous and asynchronous work.

For families who opt to move their child(ren) to fully remote, students will be staying with their current teachers and live-stream into the classroom for portions of the day.  If you would like to opt your child(ren) into fully remote, simply send me an email and we will make sure that starts on January 19th.

See you in 2021!  Wishing you all the best for the upcoming break,

David
