Principal's Message: 12/20/21

Dear OHS Families,

As we approach our December break this week and inch closer to 2022, I want to say a big thank you to our Osborn Hill community.  This has certainly been a challenging last six weeks as we have had many families impacted by Covid and many others in contact and requiring quarantine.  Through all the challenges, we have worked hard to support one another and do our best to keep our students safe and in school.

Our staff members have been pushing through the challenging and stressful time, continuing to focus on teaching and student learning, even when many other factors work to distract and divert.  They have been consistently brave and strong for our students.

Our students have been maintaining the necessary safety precautions and staying as positive as possible though things have been atypical and less comfortable.

Our families have been supportive and understanding, even when their plans are turned upside down due to unexpected quarantines.

Staff Cookie Swap- Thank You in Advance

This Tuesday, the families in our community are planning a cookie swap for our staff as an act of giving and appreciation.  It is certainly a heartfelt act and I know will be greatly appreciated.  Thank you!

Holiday Sing-Along

On Thursday morning, we will be holding our annual Holiday Sing-Along.  We will be holding it through a live Google Meet, with classes joining from their classrooms and watching the pre-recorded video of music performed by OHS students with lyrics to all songs being shown in time to the music. The songs are a mix of songs from Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Christmas, and general holiday songs. Mrs. Haskitt has been working really hard these last weeks to record all the songs and edit the video. We owe Mrs. Haskitt a big thank you!

Fairfield Public Library Winter Reading Challenge

In January, the public library is participating in a Winter Reading Challenge.  The challenge is called Read for a Better World and encourages readers to read on topics of diversity, empathy, and action.  Here is some information about the challenge.

Gift Card Thank You

Thank you to those who provided gift cards for families in need in our community.  It is generous and kind of you to give.  If anyone else is able to provide some gift cards to area stores, it would be greatly appreciated.  Donations can be sent to the main office marked “OHS Holiday Drive.”

Custodian Thank You

I want to say a special thank you to our custodial team, Mr. Bill, Mr. Gary, and Mr. Lou, for all their continued and extra efforts that have been required during this tricky time.  They have reacted quickly when situations arose in 2021 and have been a great team.

I hope you and your family enjoy, connect, and relax during this December vacation.  For all those celebrating Christmas and Kwanzaa, I wish you a happy holiday.  I hope everyone has a wonderful start to 2022.  I look forward to seeing you in the new year!
