Principal's Message: 11/16/20

Dear OHS Families,

I hope you had a good weekend.

We ended the week on Friday with Veterans Day CARES Assemblies.  It was our first attempt at virtual assemblies and they went well.  We started with a review of Veterans Day and why we celebrate it each November.  We showed the projects of poster murals that had been completed the week prior.  Then we reviewed what CARES stands for and then used breakout rooms to team up classrooms to think about what CARES looks like online, in the classroom, and in the community.  In most of the classroom pairs, the younger class thought of ideas that would be kind in the setting and then the older class helped determine which CARES category the idea fit under: Cooperation, Awareness, Responsibility, Empathy, or Self-Control.  Big thanks to Mrs. Galgano for organizing the presentation and our fifth grade team for organizing the poster mural Veterans Day activity.

It is hard to believe we are so close to Thanksgiving.  The day before Thanksgiving (11/25) will be a scheduled early release day meaning both cohorts of students will be in fully remote together following the schedule the classroom teacher sends out.  The specials will be at different times than usual to accommodate the early-release time.  The official time of school is 9:00 am-1:30 pm for the early release days.  We will have another scheduled early release day on the day before the winter break on 12/23.

I may not have a message in next week’s Flash, so I want to be sure Thanksgiving does not pass without taking a moment to express my deep appreciation for our Osborn Hill community and the kindness and caring of our students, families, and staff over the course of these extremely challenging months.  I know the current pandemic and its wide impact has caused great stress and made life more difficult in countless ways for everyone.  As we face all of this, I am thankful for our community and the supportive approach everyone is taking to keep safety and our students our highest priority.

Wishing you a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving time,

David
