Principal's Message: 10/31/22

Dear OHS Families,

Halloween is here!  As of the time I write this, it looks like we will have good weather for our parades.  In the event we need to make any changes to the plan below because of rain, I will send out a blast to all families.  I hope you enjoy the day.

Halloween Parade Plan – Today, Monday, Oct 31

  • Our kindergarteners will have a parade around the outside of the school at 9:30 am.  Students in the other grades will stand outside their exterior classroom doors to cheer on our kindergarteners.  Family members of our kindergarteners can stand in front of the school to see the parade.  The parade will go along the whole front of the school.  K students can come to school in costumes, keeping masks and other parts in bags.
  • Our parade for students in grades 1-5 will begin at 2:30 pm and will start with grade 1 and work up through the grades to grade 5.  The parade will go along the front of the school from the K wing towards the upper grade wing, will go around to the back blacktop where it will loop around and return around the front of the school returning to the front doors.  Students in grades 1-5 will have a little time before the parade to put on costumes.  Please think about costumes that will allow students the ability to manage on their own.

Please keep in mind we cannot have toys shaped as any sort of weapon - e.g. a pretend gun, sword, knife, sickle, pitchfork, etc. Please save those for neighborhood trick-or-treating. Also, please make sure that any masks allow for proper visibility. For anyone who chooses not to wear a costume, which is completely fine, I would encourage the wearing of school colors, spirit wear, or Halloween colors.

Special Presentation for Students and Parents/Guardians: Kindness Ninja

This Wednesday, 11/2, we have a special SEL assemblies with presenter Brian Williams, known as the Kindness Ninja. He will be inspiring kindness in our community with ideas and strategies students can use right away.  Dana Figa and Kate Fierman have been working to make this program happen for a while, so big thanks to them and the PTA for making this possible.

Brian Williams, Kindness Ninja, also has a special presentation for parents/guardians on Wednesday, 11/2 at 7:00 pm at Roger Ludlowe Middle School Auditorium.  Brian will present the scientific impact of kindness and provide tips and strategies for starting a kindness movement.

Have a great week!

David
