Principal's Message: 10/10/22

Dear OHS Families,

I hope you are having a good start to October!  With the Pink Day Norma Pfriem fundraiser this past Friday and the Scholastic Book Fair coming this week, it certainly feels like we are in October.

Conferences Continue- Early Release Days

This week we have early dismissals on Wednesday, 10/12, and Thursday, 10/13, for our conferences to continue.  Thank you for making the time to meet.  Big thanks to the teachers for all the preparation for the conferences.

Book Fair this week!
As I mentioned, the Book Fair is here! On Monday and Tuesday, students will get a chance to preview the sale during school with their classes. On Tuesday, after school from 3-6 pm, the book fair will be open to families. On Wednesday and Thursday, it will be open to families after school 1:30-5:00 on our early dismissal days. The fair will be in the LLC. Big thanks to Tara Van Horne, Jane Loh, and Rhiannon Kelty for organizing the event!

Halloween Parade Plan – Monday, Oct 31
Halloween is 3 weeks from today. There will be two parades on October 31st:

  • Our kindergarteners will have a parade around the outside of the school at 9:30 am.  Students in the other grades will stand outside their exterior classroom doors to cheer on our kind.  Family members of our kindergarteners can stand in front of the school to see the parade.  The parade will go along the whole front of the school, so please spread out to allow distancing.  K students can come to school in costumes, keeping masks and other parts in bags.
  • Our parade for students in grades 1-5 will begin at 2:30 pm that day and will start with grade 1 and work up through the grades to grade 5.  The parade route will similar to last year’s in that the grade levels will go one at a time and slowly walk the whole front of the building starting from the main doors outside the K hallway along the front of the school, through the bus loop and proceed along the front of the building past the upper wing. In the back of the school, the grade levels will parade for one another so students can see one another’s costumes. Students in grades 1-5 will have a little time before the parade to put on costumes.  Please think about costumes that will allow students the ability to manage on their own.

Please keep in mind we cannot have toys shaped as any sort of weapon - e.g. a pretend gun, sword, knife, sickle, pitchfork, etc. Please save those for neighborhood trick-or-treating. Also, please make sure that any masks allow for proper visibility. For anyone who chooses not to wear a costume, which is completely fine, I would encourage the wearing of school colors, spirit wear, or Halloween colors.

Have a great week ahead,

David
