Principal's Welcome

Mr. Smyth

Welcome to Osborn Hill.

I was fortunate to be appointed principal of Osborn Hill as of July 1, 2024. In my short time here, I have come to know and value our joyful and curious children, our dedicated and loving families, and our talented and caring staff. Osborn Hill is a special place that embodies a true neighborhood school with a strong sense of community.

My goal is to work side-by-side with everyone in our community to guide the growth of our children – academically, socially, emotionally, and physically. I believe in creating a school environment where every child feels safe, valued, respected and loved. Children need a strong emotional foundation to be able to take the risks necessary to grow, so that they can create a strong educational foundation. I also believe in supporting teachers to continually learn and grow their craft, so that they can best support and challenge our students to achieve success, as well as grow professionally themselves. Teachers who are lifelong learners create students who are lifelong learners.

This year we are focused on a few key priorities. First, implementing a new literacy curriculum is a major focus: We are working diligently to embed the many components of Houghton Mifflin Harcourt’s (HMH) Into Reading curriculum.  Through professional development sessions, coaching, and collaborative planning, we are learning the new materials and mastering the program’s strategies.  Another priority at Osborn Hill is to grow in our analysis of math data to better inform our mathematics instruction.  Finally, we are also focused on developing grade-level lessons that will teach students skills to create an even more kind and inclusive environment at Osborn Hill.

I look forward to a year of learning and growing, for everyone in our community.  Please reach out if you have any questions. Take care.
